St John Fisher Catholic Primary School is fortunate to retain a Family Liaison Officer (FLO), whose focus is to support our families within the schools community.
Our FLO, Honor McGill, is available at the school to provide understanding and help ease some of the demands and challenges that face many families in our community.
Working in conjunction with the schools staff, The FLO assists in maintaining contact with families through a difficult phase. Our FLO can provide information about support services and can help provide referral to external agencies such as Catholic Care or other organisations as required.
In addition our FLO encourages and helps to provide opportunities for families to engage with their schools community by focusing on building capacity and skills for parents which enhance learning outcomes for children, cultivating a sense of well-being for all.
The FLO also plays an integral part in the various programs run by the school, such as the Transition to School Program for new Kindergarten students and parents, the Seasons for Growth program which is aimed at helping students cope with loss and change. In addition our FLO offers Parent Education sessions and facilitates social workshops to encourage community engagement.
How can the FLO support me?
Quite often parents will talk with the FLO about issues such as:
- Helping students/families with transition to BIG school
- How parents can be involved at school “Parent Engagement”
- Family illness
- Financial stress
- School/Home life balance
- Family Breakdowns
- Behavioural concerns with children
- Resources to support students educational and emotional well-being.
Parent education workshops and groups are also organised by our FLO in conjunction with the parent education team from the Catholic Schools Office, and include the facilitation of programs such as:·
- 123 Magic – This provides strategies that promote positive behaviour in children.
- Small Steps – Helping children with Anxiety
- Social and Preschool groups
Honor McGill is available at the school 2 days a week predominantly (Mondays & Fridays). Appointments are not necessary. Just call into the office or contact her via telephone.
Anything discussed with our FLO is always treated with the utmost confidence and respect.
